Information We Collect
We collect: Account and profile information you give us when you sign up, including your name, email address, phone number, bio, certifications, specialties, links to your website and social profiles, and a profile photo. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that account. Answers to the questions we ask on the signup form, including how you heard about us, how and how often you recommend gear, and how you plan to bring people to your catalog. If you signed up through another member's referral link, we record which member referred you. Content you submit, including the products you add to a catalog, what you write about them, and any photos you upload. Payment information needed to pay you, which is your chosen method (PayPal or Venmo) and the handle associated with it, not your account credentials. Usage information about how visitors interact with the site and our emails. Affiliate performance data reported back to us by the networks below, such as clicks and completed sales attributed to a member.
Your Public Profile
Some of the information you provide is published, because a catalog is a public page. Your name, photo, bio, certifications, specialties, links, and your recommendations appear on your catalog page, in the professionals directory, and alongside your products in the marketplace at gearbook.shop/shop. The email address and phone number on your profile are also published as contact links on your catalog page, so people can reach you. Images you upload, including your profile photo and any catalog cover, are stored at a public web address so that they can be displayed on those pages. That address is not listed anywhere and cannot be guessed, but anyone who has it can open the image directly, and it keeps working after you replace or remove the image from your profile until the file itself is deleted. If you do not want a piece of information to be public, do not put it in your profile, and contact us at hello@gearbook.shop if you would like something removed.
How We Use Your Information
We use what we collect to run the service and improve it, to build and publish your catalog, to communicate with you about your account, to generate affiliate tracking links and attribute sales to the right member, to calculate and send payouts, to send our newsletter where you have asked for it, and to comply with legal and tax obligations.
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it with the companies that run parts of this service for us: Supabase (database, sign-in, and file storage), Vercel (website hosting and analytics), Resend (email delivery), and Google (sign-in and, with your consent, analytics). We share data with the affiliate networks that track and pay commissions, which are Impact and Partnerize, and through them our retail partners (Backcountry, Suunto, Osprey, West Marine, Adorama, Scuba.com, SunnySports). Payouts are sent through PayPal or Venmo using the handle you provide. We may also disclose information to legal authorities where the law requires it.
Cookies & Analytics
Some cookies are necessary for the site to work, such as keeping you signed in, and are always set. Analytics cookies are not. We ask before loading Google Analytics, and if you decline it is never loaded. You can change your mind by clearing this site's data in your browser, which brings the choice back.
Affiliate Tracking
Separately from our own cookies: when you click a product link anywhere on this site, the affiliate network behind it (Impact or Partnerize) and the retailer you are sent to may set their own cookies to attribute a resulting purchase. That tracking is run by those companies under their own privacy policies, not ours, and it is how a commission finds its way back to the member who recommended the product. You can block or clear these through your browser, and doing so does not change what you pay.
Affiliate Link Disclosure
GearBook earns commissions through affiliate marketing programs. Product links throughout this site are affiliate links, including on member catalog pages, the shop and its category pages, and the featured gear on our homepage. If you click one and buy something, GearBook and the member who recommended it may earn a commission, at no additional cost to you. We only publish gear that a working outdoor professional has chosen to recommend.
California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to: (1) know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; (2) request deletion of your personal information; (3) opt out of the sale of your personal information. If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data, the right to restrict or object to processing, and the right to data portability. To exercise your rights, contact us at hello@gearbook.shop.
Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of online transmission is 100% secure.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, update, or delete your personal information, opt out of marketing communications, and request details about how your data is used. You can edit most of your profile yourself from your dashboard at any time. To request deletion of your account and the data attached to it, or to exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@gearbook.shop. Note that we may need to retain some records, such as payout history, to meet legal and tax obligations.
Children's Privacy
Our services are not directed to individuals under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date.
